February freight volumes grew modestly but revenue rose strongly, according to the latest freight index report from Cass Information Systems.
The monthly Cass freight index said February shipment levels grew 3.5% over the same month last year, while shipper expenditures climbed 9.8%.
The index covers all modes of freight transportation.
Both parts of the index also increased sequentially from January.
The shipments index stood at 1.072 in February, compared with a January 1990 baseline of 1.0.
By contrast, the shipper expenditure component rose to 2.295 in February and uses a similar starting point.
