Logistics firm DHL said it will spend $22.5 million to expand its hub at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, adding nine new aircraft gates.

The project will begin in March, and will build on 19 acres of land DHL leases from the airport, it said in a statement Wednesday.

Each of the new gates will be able to handle wide-body aircraft, DHL said. Construction will last until September, DHL said.

The project is the second phase of a $40 million project to expand DHL’s operations at the airport. The first phase involved upgrades to the company’s sorting system.

The Cincinnati airport handles 90% of DHL’s volume that enters the United States, it said.
