Michelin North America said Thursday that its chairman, Richard Wilkerson, will retire by year’s end. He will be succeeded by Pete Selleck.

Selleck, who will return to Greenville, S.C., from Michelin’s headquarters in France to succeed Wilkerson, has been with Michelin for 29 years and president of the company’s global truck tire business since January 2006.

Wilkerson “has demonstrated exemplary leadership throughout his career at Michelin,â€ Jean-Dominique Senard, managing general partner of the Michelin Group, said in a statement.

A 31-year veteran of the company, Wilkerson was chairman of the North American unit since August 2008. He will become chairman emeritus upon his retirement.
