Volvo AB said Monday its May North American heavy truck deliveries rose 31% from a year ago.
Deliveries of its Volvo and Mack brands rose to 4,677 trucks, from 3,571 a year ago, Gothenberg, Sweden-based Volvo said in a statement.
Volvo-brand truck deliveries rose 5% to 2,201 units in North America, while Mack Trucksâ€™ sales jumped 80% to 2,426.
For the year, North American sales are up 41% from a year ago, to 22,237 trucks. Volvo sales are up 27%, at 11,130, and Mackâ€™s are up 68%, at 10,806.
Worldwide truck deliveries for all Volvo brands declined 3% to 19,734 units, led by a 23% decline in Western Europe and 19% drop in South America.
The overall decline was largely due to a 37% drop in light-duty trucks, with heavy-duty deliveries flat from a year ago, at 15,566.
Total Volvo Group sales for the year were flat, at 94,344, while heavy-duty sales gained 1% to 71,842 from a year ago.
Volvo AB is the parent company of Volvo Trucks North America. Mack Trucks and the Eicher, UD Trucks and Renault Trucks brands.
